A group of researchers at Britain's Lancaster University has been using a household food blender to mix particles from the root vegetable with concrete to see if they can produce a stronger and more environmentally sound product.




Crimea Mourns Victims of Mass Shooting

 

KERCH, Crimea (Reuters) - Hundreds of residents in the Crimean port city of Kerch commemorated on Friday the victims of a college mass shooting in which an armed teenager killed 20 people, mostly his fellow pupils, and injured dozens more.

The suspected attacker was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after Wednesday's attack, which recalled shootings at schools in the United States.

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 77 Palestinians during protests near the Gaza Strip border on Friday, the enclave's Health Ministry said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said about 10,000 demonstrators massed at the border and that some threw burning tires, grenades and explosive devices at the troops across the fence.




Texas Toddler Left at Stranger's House, Instead of with Dad

 

(Reuters) - A woman who intended to drop off a 2-year-old boy with his father instead left the toddler at the wrong address in suburban Houston and ran off after ringing the bell, police said late Thursday.

The woman who left the child, a friend of the mother, was initially suspected of child abandonment after video, shared widely on social media, showed her hoisting the toddler by the arm to a stranger's house in the northern Houston suburb of Spring on Thursday, authorities said.
