Severe Weather to Sweep Through the Central Plains into the Southeast
 
A large band of severe weather is set to make its way across the nation from the Central Plains to parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast making slow progress over the course of Friday.
 
Rain and Storms will also be seen in the majority of the Northeast, Florida, and parts of the Northern Plains as the West remains largely clear of any damaging weather events.



East Libyan Forces Reclaim Key Oil Ports

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - East Libyan forces said on Thursday they had retaken the shuttered oil ports of Es Sider and Ras Lanuf, hours after clashes resumed south of Ras Lanuf during a counter-attack by rival factions.

Staff were evacuated from terminals in Libya's eastern oil crescent and exports were suspended last Thursday when armed opponents of eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar stormed the ports and occupied them.




Parents in California Torture Case Ordered to Stand Trial

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A judge on Thursday ordered a married couple to stand trial on 49 counts of torture, false imprisonment and abuse over the treatment of 13 siblings who were found imprisoned and starving in their suburban California home, prosecutors said.

David and Louise Turpin were bound over for trial after a two-day hearing in Riverside County Superior Court in which the court heard tape of an emotional 911 call by a 17-year-old girl who climbed out a window and dialed police on a borrowed and deactivated cell phone, said John Hall of the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

MCALLEN, Texas (Reuters) - Melania Trump, the wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, on Thursday visited children displaced by the country's immigration crisis in Texas, only a day after Trump reversed course and ordered families to be kept intact when entering the United States illegally from Mexico.




U.S. Centers Force Migrant Children to Take Drugs

 

(Reuters) - Immigrant children are being routinely and forcibly given a range of psychotropic drugs at U.S. government-funded youth shelters to manage their trauma after being detained and in some cases separated from parents, according to a lawsuit.

Children held at facilities such as the Shiloh Treatment Center in Texas are almost certain to be administered the drugs, irrespective of their condition, and without their parents' consent, according to the lawsuit filed by the Los Angeles-based Center for Human Rights & Constitutional Law.




Israeli PM Netanyahu's Wife Charged with Fraud

 

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife, Sara, was charged on Thursday with fraud over the alleged misuse of state funds in ordering catered meals at their official residence, the Justice Ministry said.

The indictment charged that Netanyahu, along with a government employee, fraudulently obtained more than $100,000 for hundreds of meals supplied by restaurants, bypassing regulations prohibiting the practice if a cook is employed at the home.




U.S. Top Court Lets States Force Online Retailers to Collect Sales Tax

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - States may force online retailers to collect potentially billions of dollars in sales taxes, the U.S. Supreme Court said in a major ruling on Thursday that undercut an advantage many e-commerce companies have enjoyed over brick-and-mortar rivals.
