Second Cardinal Withdraws from Ireland Congress Amid Abuse Scandals

DUBLIN (Reuters) - The Archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Donald Wuerl, withdrew on Saturday from next week's World Meeting of Families in Dublin, the second senior cleric to pull out of the Roman Catholic event amid clerical sexual abuse scandals in the United States.

Iran to Unveil New Fighter Jet, Develop Missiles


DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran will unveil a new fighter jet next week and continue developing missile capabilities as a top priority, the defense minister said on Saturday, defying new U.S. sanctions aimed at curbing Tehran's missile program and regional influence.

Iran's navy also announced on Saturday that it has mounted a locally built advanced defensive weapons system on one of its warships for the first time, as tensions mount with the U.

Storms and Showers Spread Across the Central Plains and Southeast

Pop-up afternoon showers which made their way into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic on Saturday afternoon will continue through Sunday with temperatures remaining in the 80s for most.

Magnitude 8.2 Quake Strikes in the Pacific


(Reuters) - A massive quake of magnitude 8.2 struck in the Pacific Ocean close to Fiji and Tonga on Sunday but it was so deep that it was not expected to cause any damage, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center also said the quake was too deep to cause a tsunami.
