WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley set a Saturday afternoon deadline for a woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault to decide if and how she will testify, the New York Times reported.




South Carolina Communities Race to Beat Dangerous Flooding

RALEIGH, N.C. (Reuters) - South Carolina communities along waterways near the Atlantic coast were racing on Saturday to prepare for the possible onslaught of dangerous flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, which has killed at least 40 people.




Gunmen Kill 24, Including 12 Revolutionary Guards, in Attack on Iran Military Parade

 

DUBAI (Reuters) - Gunmen fired on a military parade in southwestern Iran on Saturday, killing 24 people, half of them members of the Revolutionary Guards, state news agencies reported, in one of the worst attacks ever on the elite force.

State television said the assault, which wounded more than 60 people, targeted a stand where Iranian officials had gathered to watch an annual event marking the start of the Islamic Republic's 1980-88 war with Iraq.




Severe Weather Moves Out of the U.S. as Fall Begins

 
The start of Fall will see a day without severe weather threats for the U.S. with a day of sunshine and warm temperatures for the flood-hit Carolinas.
 
Rain will make its way through the Deep South and strike portions of the Mid-Atlantic but should pose a minimal threat to the Northeast and Midwest.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Republicans threatened to go ahead with a Senate panel vote on President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Monday unless a deal could be reached on Friday with the woman accusing him of sexual assault on how and when she will testify.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - At least a dozen more women have come forward with allegations against a California surgeon and reality TV personality arrested last week with his girlfriend on charges of drugging and raping two women, the Orange County prosecutor said on Friday.




Palestinians say One Killed, Dozens Wounded as Israeli Troops Fire on Gaza Protest

 

GAZA (Reuters) - One Palestinian was killed and dozens other wounded when Israeli forces opened fire during a weekly demonstration near the Israel-Gaza border on Friday, Gaza's Health Ministry said.

The Israeli army said soldiers had come under attack by Palestinians who hurled grenades, explosive devices, burning tyres and rocks at them and the border fence.
