Two Car Bombs Explode in Somali Capital, Two Injured

 

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Two car bombs exploded in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Saturday, injuring two people, an emergency worker and a police officer said.

It was not clear who had planted the bombs, which detonated in two different cars near a main road in the center of the city.




Annual Oktoberfest Kicks Off in Munich with Beer, Lederhosen, Sausages

 

MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) - Thousands of visitors, many of them dressed in traditional lederhosen or dirndl corseted dresses, descended on Munich on Saturday for the start of the annual Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival.

Munich's mayor, Dieter Reiter, kicked off the festivities by tapping open the first beer keg with a traditional shout of "O zapft is!" ("It's tapped" in English).

    Gunmen Kill 24, Including 12 Revolutionary Guards, in Attack on Iran Military Parade

     

    DUBAI (Reuters) - Gunmen fired on a military parade in southwestern Iran on Saturday, killing 24 people, half of them members of the Revolutionary Guards, state news agencies reported, in one of the worst attacks ever on the elite force.

    State television said the assault, which wounded more than 60 people, targeted a stand where Iranian officials had gathered to watch an annual event marking the start of the Islamic Republic's 1980-88 war with Iraq.
