Trust in U.S. Institutions Plunges in Trump's First Year

DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - Trust in U.S. institutions, particularly the government, has plunged in President Donald Trump's first year in office, according to a leading survey released on the eve of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The annual Edelman Trust Barometer showed overall trust in the four institutions it measures - the government, media, business and non-governmental organizations - falling more steeply in the United States than in any of the 28 countries surveyed.

Government Still Shut Down on Monday as Senate Fails to Clinch Deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. government shutdown will enter its third day on Monday as Senate negotiators failed to reach agreement late on Sunday to restore federal spending authority and deal with demands from Democrats that young "Dreamers" be protected from deportation.

Las Vegas Shooter's Girlfriend Won't Face Charges

(Reuters) - The girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, who fatally shot 58 people in October, is unlikely to face charges but the FBI was investigating another person in the case, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said on Friday.

The shooters live-in girlfriend, Marilou Danley, had told the FBI she had no idea Paddock was "planning violence against anyone" before he rained bullets from a Las Vegas hotel room on a country music concert below, in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.

Audi Ordered to Recall 127,000 Vehicles over Emissions


FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany's KBA automotive watchdog has detected illicit emission-control software in Audi's <NSUG.DE> latest Euro-6 diesel models and has ordered a recall of 127,000 vehicles, Bild am Sonntag reported.

Audi, a unit of Volkswagen <VOWG_p.DE>, said in a statement that the models had been included in a voluntary recall of 850,000 diesel vehicles with V6 and V8 TDI engines announced in July.

Pence Tells U.S. Troops: No Immigration Talks until Government Reopens

(Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Sunday that the Trump administration would not reopen talks with Democratic lawmakers on "illegal immigration" until the U.S. government shutdown had concluded.

During remarks to troops at a military facility in the Middle East, Pence said Democrats were playing politics with military personnel pay.
