Trump Invites Putin to Washington

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington this autumn, the White House said on Thursday, a daring rebuttal to the torrent of criticism in the United States over Trump's failure to publicly confront Putin at their first summit for Moscow's meddling in the 2016 election.

Bulk of Families Separated at U.S.-Mexico Border Remain Apart


LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - With one week left on a court-ordered deadline to reunite children and parents separated by U.S. immigration officials, government lawyers reported on Thursday that 364 of some 2,500 families with children aged 5 and older have been brought back together.It was unclear from the status report, filed as part of an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit challenging parent-child separations at the border, exactly how many more reunifications were likely.

Brazil's 'Dr. Butt' Plastic Surgeon Arrested after Patient Death


BRASILIA (Reuters) - A plastic surgeon known as "Dr. Bumbum" or "Dr. Butt" on social media because of his buttock-enhancement operations was arrested on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, four days after one of his patients died, police said.

Police in Rio de Janeiro said on their website that they had been searching for Denis Furtado since Sunday when his patient Lilian Calixto, a 46-year-old bank manager, died at a hospital where Furtado had taken her after a procedure.

U.S. to Alert Public to Foreign Efforts to Undermine American Politics


(Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department announced on Thursday a policy to alert the public about foreign cyber operations like Russia's alleged hacking and disinformation campaign during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The U.S. government has been hesitant to publicize such foreign operations, fearing their disclosure could be seen as tipping the balance in an election.

Comic-Con Opens in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - There were bodysuits, boots and masks galore in San Diego as thousands of comic, superhero and anime fans flocked to the opening of Comic-Con on Thursday.

Highlights of this year's Comic-Con include the introduction of the first female "Doctor Who", played by British actress Jodie Whittaker, and a reunion for the cast of the U.

At Least 11 Drown as 'Duck Boat' Capsizes in Missouri

(Reuters) - At least 11 people including children drowned when an amphibious "duck boat" carrying 31 people capsized and sank in stormy weather on a lake in Missouri on Thursday.

Divers will resume searching for other victims on Friday, police said.
