Trump Sits Down with Putin after Denouncing Past U.S. Policy on Russia

HELSINKI (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump sat down with Vladimir Putin for a long-awaited summit on Monday saying he wanted good relations with Russia, after blaming Washington's own past "foolishness and stupidity" for the countries' hostile ties.

Turkey Says Reports of Kurdish Militia Withdrawal from Manbij 'Exaggerated'


ANKARA (Reuters) - A source at Turkey's Foreign Ministry on Monday dismissed a militia report that Kurdish YPG fighters had completely left Syria's Manbij region as exaggerated, saying their withdrawal was still under way.

Turkey and the United States reached a deal last month over Manbij, a town in northern Syria, after months of disagreement.

Syrian Forces Widen South West Offensive


AMMAN/BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian government forces widened their offensive in the country's southwest on Sunday to Quneitra province, a region adjoining the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, a war monitor and rebel sources said.

Government forces, backed by the Russian military, have captured most of the southwest's Deraa province in a push that began in June.

Severe Weather Could Reach the Southern Great Lakes

Monday will see a few small areas of severe weather in the Northern Plains and in the Southern Great Lakes where a tornado could be possible. In the East, the pattern will follow that seen over the last few weeks with afternoon pop-up showers and storms possible throughout the start of the working week.
Monsoon conditions will continue to be seen in the Southwest over the course of Monday afternoon increasing the risk of flash flooding.

Suspect Dead, 3 Officers Wounded in Kansas City Shootouts


(Reuters) - Police shot and killed a man on Sunday after a series of shootouts on the streets of Kansas City in which three officers were wounded and hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.

Undercover and tactical officers were following a person of interest in the murder of a university student when suddenly and unexpectedly he fired on them with a rifle, according to police in Kansas City, Missouri.
