Man Who Served in U.S. Army Reserves Accused of Being Agent for China

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Chinese citizen was arrested in Chicago on Tuesday on charges that he covertly worked for a high-ranking Chinese intelligence official to help try and recruit engineers and scientists, including some who worked as U.S. defense contractors, the Justice Department said.




McConnell Says Supreme Court Nominee Kavanaugh Will Be Confirmed

 

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he believed President Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, would be confirmed to the lifetime position.

"We're going to be moving forward. I'm confident we're going to win, confident that he'll be confirmed in the very near future," McConnell, a Republican, told reporters at the U.




Suspect Arrested in Bludgeoning of Seven California Men, Three of Them Fatal

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A man who fled to California from Texas after being questioned in the disappearance of two Houston relatives has been arrested on suspicion of committing seven bludgeoning attacks, three of them fatal, in the Los Angeles area this month, police said on Tuesday.




Showers and Storms in the East as Severe Weather Pushes into the Northeast

U.N. Welcomes New Zealand's 'First Baby'

 

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - With a mock security pass that lists her as the "First Baby" of New Zealand, 3-month-old Neve Te Aroha made her United Nations debut on Monday when her mother - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern - spoke at a peace summit in the General Assembly.

Her partner Clarke Gayford, who is the baby's full-time caregiver, sat with the New Zealand delegation and held Neve as Ardern spoke.
