NFL to Fine Teams If Players on Field Refuse to Stand for Anthem

 

NEW YORK (Reuters) - National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday announced a new policy that will fine teams an undetermined amount if players on the field fail to stand during the national anthem played before the start of the game.

Some NFL players chose to kneel during the anthem last year to protest police shootings of unarmed black men, stirring a controversy as President Donald Trump criticized the players for being unpatriotic.

U.S. Congress Panel to Grill Olympic Officials on Preventing Sex Abuse

 

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A congressional panel on Wednesday will grill top executives from the U.S. Olympic Committee and the governing bodies of four sports on whether they have done enough to protect athletes from sexual abuse.

The hearing before the House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce subcommittee follows allegations that officials ignored widespread sexual abuse of athletes by coaches and trainers.

Another Legal Headache for U.S. President

A new collaborator may soon join the investigation by the Office of Special Counsel into the President of the United States. According to a report posted by The New York Times, a business partner of Michael Cohen, an attorney who represented President Trump in many business deals, has agreed to collaborate with federal prosecutors.

Trump Lawyer Cohen's Business Partner Cooperating with Prosecutors

 

(Reuters) - A business partner of U.S. President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in investigations, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

Evgeny Freidman, a Russian immigrant who is known as the Taxi King, will avoid jail time and will assist government prosecutors in state or federal investigations, the newspaper report said, citing a person briefed on the matter.
