Tsunami Earthquake Called Off After Strong Alaska Earthquake

Residents of Kodiak in Alaska were awakened by a powerful earthquake that initially measured at an 8.2 magnitude before being revised downward to 7.9.
The seismic movement took place at about 30 minutes after midnight, about 4:30 am in New York, but the tsunami warning was issued later after officials noticed coastal water receding.

Senior Yemen Qaeda Leader Calls for Knife and Car Attacks on Jews


DUBAI (Reuters) - A senior leader of al Qaeda's Yemen branch has called for knife and car attacks on Jews in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the U.S. SITE monitoring group said on Tuesday.

Citing a video recording by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's al-Malahem media foundation, SITE said that Khaled Batarfi, believed to be the number two man in AQAP after Qassim al-Raymi, also warned that no Muslim had the right to cede any part of Jerusalem.

Blizzards and Tornadoes Could Mark the End of Winter Weather for Almost 2 Weeks

Tsunami Watch for Hawaii Canceled


(Reuters) - Hawaii is no longer considered at risk from a possible tsunami that could be generated by a powerful earthquake that hit the Gulf of Alaska early on Tuesday, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

"Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat to the state of Hawaii.

Magnitude 7.9 Quake off Alaska Prompts Tsunami Warning

ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - A magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit the Gulf of Alaska in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting warnings of a possible tsunami down the west coast of North America.

Emergency sirens sounded in Kodiak, a town of 6,100 people on Alaska's Kodiak Island, one of the closest settlements to the epicenter.
