Green Party-backed voters dropped a court case Saturday night that had sought to force a statewide recount of Pennsylvania's Nov. 8 presidential election, won by Republican Donald Trump, in what Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein had framed as an effort to explore whether voting machines and systems had been hacked and the election result manipulated.

The decision came two days before a court hearing was scheduled in the case.

U.S. military veterans were building barracks Friday at a protest camp in North Dakota to support thousands of activists who have squared off against authorities in frigid conditions to oppose a multibillion-dollar pipeline project near a Native American reservation.

Beijing Calls Taiwan President's Call to Trump 'a Small Trick'

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday he hopes Beijing's relationship with Washington will not be interfered with or damaged after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's telephone conversation with Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen.

China's foreign minister characterized the conversation as "just a small trick by Taiwan."

China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as part of its territory and has never renounced the use of military force to bring the island under Beijing's control.
