Islamic State Kills 25 Iraqi Militiamen Near Kirkuk

KIRKUK, Iraq (Reuters) - Islamic State militants ambushed a convoy of government-backed militia fighters near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk late on Sunday, killing at least 25 of them, police and militia commanders said on Monday.

Police and militia commanders initially said 12 militia fighters were killed in the ambush and at least 10 were missing, but security forces later found 13 more bodies nearby bearing gunshot wounds.




Colder in the West as Spring Comes to the East

 
The spring-like conditions which have seen a major temperature rise across much of the nation in the early part of February is set to disappear in favor of colder air descending from the Arctic in the West and Central areas of the U.S.
 
Following the division of the polar vortex over the North Pole and a warming trend pushing large amounts of frigid air into the West Coast of the nation a band of storms is set to sweep across the West Coast to the Upper Midwest until Tuesday with heavy snowfall expected in many regions.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese scientists have warned that eating french fries will not cure baldness, after research was published suggesting that chemicals used in cooking fried potatoes could help fight hair loss.

A research team at Yokohama National University succeeded in producing clusters of 5,000 hair follicle germs (HFGs), the base organs that produce hair, with the aid of dimethylpolysiloxane, a material that was key to cultivating large numbers of HFGs.
