Two More Republican Senators Back Bipartisan Obamacare Deal

 

A bipartisan deal to stabilize Obamacare by restoring billions of dollars of federal subsidies to health insurers picked up Republican support in the Senate on Thursday despite President Donald Trump's opposition but still faced an uphill battle.

Republican Senator Lamar Alexander and Democratic Senator Patty Murray formally introduced legislation to shore up the insurance markets created under the 2010 healthcare law by reviving the subsidies, which Trump has discontinued, for two years to help lower-income Americans obtain medical coverage.




Trump Celebrates Diwali, Hindu Festival of Lights

 

U.S. President Donald Trump has celebrated the Hindu holiday of Diwali, known as the festival of lights, in a lamp-lighting ceremony in the Oval Office.

Indian-American members of the Trump administration, including U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, gathered with the president Tuesday as he read an official statement and lit the ceremonial oil lamp known as the diya.

In his statement, Trump said, "We especially remember the people of India, the home of the Hindu faith, who have built the world's largest democracy.




White Nationalist Richard Spencer Shouted Down at University of Florida Speech

 

White separatist leader Richard Spencer gave up trying to speak Thursday at the University of Florida in Gainesville when protesters shouted him down.

"You are cowardly trying to shut down a movement that is growing and it's going to stand up for white people," Spencer hollered as the crowd chanted "No more Spencer."

He accused the crowd of not believing in free speech and being unwilling to have a debate.




US: North Korea Months Away From Being Able to Hit US with Nuclear Missile

 

North Korea is likely just months away from being capable of striking the United States with a nuclear missile, according to two top U.S. officials.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo told a forum in Washington on Thursday he is "deeply worried" about the advancing threat from North Korea and the possibility it could spark a nuclear arms race across East Asia.

"We ought to behave as if we are on the cusp of them achieving that objective," Pompeo said when asked about Pyongyang's pursuit of missile technology that could launch a warhead to targets in the U.
