Trump Faces Daunting Political Divide as He Comes to Power

Ecstatic supporters and determined protesters are preparing for Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington.

Trump will take the oath of office at noon Friday and has promised to move quickly to enact his executive and legislative agenda to bring change to Washington. But Trump will also face a daunting political divide in the United States that was in place well before his election victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton last November.

Anti-abortion Effort Gathers Steam Ahead of Trump Presidency

While abortion rights advocates look ahead to the U.S. presidency of Donald Trump with trepidation, obstacles to women seeking to end unwanted pregnancies already are gathering intensity, research showed on Thursday.

Fifty new abortion restrictions were passed last year in 18 of the 50 U.S. states, where legislators introduced more than 400 measures aimed at limiting abortion access, according to The Century Foundation, a U.S.-based public policy research group.

Chinese Paper Says Boeing, US Agriculture at Risk in Trump Trade War

An influential Chinese state-run newspaper on Thursday again warned that U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co. and U.S. agricultural imports could be targets for retaliation in any trade war ushered in by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump, who will be sworn into office Friday, has criticized China's trade practices and threatened to impose punitive tariffs on Chinese imports.

Billionaire investor Wilbur Ross, Trump's choice for commerce secretary, voiced sharp criticism of China's trade practices on Wednesday, telling senators at his confirmation hearing that he would seek new ways of combating them.
