US Launches Spy Satellite From California

A spy satellite for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office has been launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket carrying the classified NROL-42 satellite lifted off at 10:49 p.m. PDT Saturday. All systems were going well when the launch webcast concluded about three minutes into the flight.

Secretary Price to Stop Chartering Flights for Official Business

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said Saturday he will stop flying private planes on official business while an internal review of the flights is being done and that he welcomes the review.

Price defended the practice of using private planes on Fox News. A spokeswoman has said Price tries to fly commercial whenever possible.

The HHS inspector general's office says the agency is reviewing Price's charter flights to see if they violated government travel regulations.




Taliban Assassinate Afghan District Police Chief


Taliban insurgents ambushed and assassinated a district police head and his three bodyguards late Saturday in southern Afghanistan, while a separate attack in the southeast of the country killed at least five members of the government forces.

Omar Jan Haqmal, the police chief of the Nad Ali district, was traveling to Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province, when he came under attack.

Some reports quoted provincial officials as saying the slain officer was on a routine patrol.




Suicide Bomber Targets NATO Convoy in Kabul

A suicide bomber has struck a NATO convoy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, injuring at least three people.

The Ministry of Interior described the injured as Afghan civilians but would not say whether foreign forces suffered any casualties.

In a statement NATO said "An improvised explosive device targeted a NATO convoy this morning in Kabul. There are no Resolute Support casualties as a result of the explosion. A team from Resolute Support is on the scene to recover the vehicle.




US Kills 17 IS Militants in Libya


Seventeen Islamic State militants were killed during precision strikes carried out by the United States in Libya, officials said Sunday.

"In coordination with Libya's Government of National Accord and aligned forces, U.S. forces conducted six precision airstrikes in Libya against an ISIS desert camp on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:06 p.m. local time, killing 17 ISIS militants and destroying three (3) vehicles," U.S. Africa Command said in a statement.




Trump Issues More Threats Against N. Korea
U.S. President Donald Trump has responded to insults from North Korea's foreign minister with more threats.

"Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!" Trump said on Twitter.

when he addressed the U.N. General Assembly on Saturday.




North Korean Crowd Rallies Against US, Trump


North Korea held a large anti-U.S. rally in its capital city, backing its leader Kim Jong Un as he exchanges insult-laden threats with President Donald Trump.

A huge crowd gathered Saturday in Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung Square, named for the current leader's grandfather and founder of North Korea. They listened to speeches from senior officials excoriating the United States and its president.

A parade of marchers carried signs with slogans such as "decisive revenge" and "death to the American imperialists.
