Iraqi Teenager Charged in London Subway Bombing

British police on Friday charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder following the bombing of a London Underground train last week that injured 20 people.

The man, Ahmed Hassan, reported to be from Iraq, was arrested in the port of Dover -- a popular departure point for ferries to France. He also was charged with the use of an explosive, police said.

Following Hassan's arrest, police searched the suburban home of a couple that fostered refugee children, where he had been living.

Iran: 'We Will Strengthen Our Missile Capabilities'
Iran will strengthen its missile capabilities and will not seek any country's permission, President Hassan Rouhani said Friday in a snub to demands from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Rouhani was speaking at a military parade where an Iranian news agency said one of the weapons on display was a new ballistic missile with range of 2,000 km (1,200 miles), capable of carrying several warheads.

The Tasnim news agency, which quoted the head of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division, Amirali Hajizadeh, gave few other details of the missile.

Hurricane Maria Approaches Turks & Caicos, Bahamas

The eye of Hurricane Maria approached the Turks and Caicos Friday morning with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour.

The southeastern Bahamas is also set to experience the wrath of Maria, which has dumped heavy rain on Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Maria, currently a Category 3 storm, was a more powerful Category 4 disturbance when it knocked out power throughout Puerto Rico Wednesday and flooded many areas while inflicting a less severe but still significant punch to the Dominican Republic.

Responding to Threat of More Nuclear Tests, Trump Dubs North Korean Leader 'Madman'

U.S. President Donald Trump called North Korean leader Kim Jung Un a "madman" after Kim indicated he soon may test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean. Kim made the announcement after warning he would match the president's threatening words and new sanctions with equally provocative action.

Trump responded to the reclusive North Korean leader Friday by renewing the rhetorical exchange between the two on Twitter.

Mexico Expects Earthquake Death Toll to Rise

Mexican officials say the death toll from the massive 7.1-magnitude earthquake has reached 286, but that count is expected to rise as scores of people are still missing.

Rescue teams in central Mexico have been working around the clock among the flattened buildings since Tuesday in search of survivors.

President Enrique Pena Nieto has declared three days of national mourning.

He praised Mexicans' rapid response to the disaster, while stressing the priorities remain saving lives and getting medical attention to those in need.

...Cold for the western U.S. and warm for the eastern states...

A dichotomy of air masses will exist across the nation to end the
week and into the weekend, with a deep trough over the
Intermountain West and a large upper level ridge over the eastern
U.S.  This equates to below normal temperatures and snow for the
higher elevations of the Rockies and Great Basin, and summer-like
heat and noticeable levels of humidity from the Plains to the East
Coast.
