From Bitcoin to Big Business, Blockchain Technology Goes Mainstream

The technology behind bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is being looked at by more conventional companies and businesses.

Known as blockchain, it is a public digital ledger that keeps a running tally of all cryptocurrency transactions within a distributed network of computers. Once they are recorded, transactions cannot be edited or removed, thus adding to the "chain."

"It's kind of like if you share an Excel file with a group of your employees at the office, but you don't know exactly who updated it," explained Hudson Jameson, chief operating officer and blockchain lead at Oaken Innovations.

US Splits With G-7 Counterparts on Climate Change

In an unprecedented move, a Group of Seven summit communique has carved out a unique place for the United States to break with its counterparts on a major issue.

In a pared-down final communique, all G-7 nations, except the United States, pledged action to mitigate climate change.

"The United States of America is in the process of reviewing its policies on climate change and on the Paris Agreement and thus is not in a position to join the consensus on these topics," the communique read.

Tips to Improve Your Health If You Sit at a Computer All Day

Recent studies claim that sitting for long periods of time doing anything from watching television to working on a computer is as unhealthy as smoking cigarettes. Yet, with more people working from home and sitting in front of a monitor, it is easy to become accustomed to a sedentary lifestyle. Unfortunately, we will pay the price through mounting health problems, such as eye strain, back problems, and weight gain. The following tips can help to combat too much sitting if you do them routinely.

5 Simple Ways to Help Detox Your Body

Some of us overdo it on an occasional binge, while others have made a lifestyle of eating or drinking all the wrong things that jeopardize our health. If you want to detox your body the natural way, try the following simple strategies after checking with your doctor.

Eat fruits and vegetables

Load up on fresh and preferably organic fruits and vegetables that you enjoy. Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks daily for two or three days.

Is Social Media Bad for Your Mental Health?

Like anything else, too much time spent on social media can be hazardous to your health. Here are some possible negative effects, along with ways you can avoid or address them.

Low self-esteem

Many social media users report that their self-esteem is impacted by some of the interactions they engage in online. Account holders of media like Facebook or Twitter sometimes attack each other openly or make snide comments indirectly, either of which can make the victim feel bad about his or her self-image.

Fitness Trackers Bad at Measuring Calories Burned, Study Says

It's probably not a good idea to decide what to eat based on how many calories your wearable fitness tracker says you've burned, according to a new study.

Researchers at Stanford University in California, who tested several popular fitness trackers on 60 volunteers, say the fitness trackers are good for measuring heart rate and counting steps, but they're bad at measuring energy expenditure.

The volunteers, 29 men and 31 women, engaged in a variety of physical activities, including walking or running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike.

Former National Security Adviser Dies

Zbigniew Brzezinski, who helped topple economic barriers between the Soviet Union, China and the West as President Jimmy Carter's national security adviser, died Friday. He was 89.

His death was announced on social media Friday night by his daughter, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski. She called him "the most inspiring, loving and devoted father any girl could ever have."

Earnest and ambitious, Brzezinski helped Carter bridge wide gaps between the rigid Egyptian and Israeli leaders, Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin, leading to the Camp David accords in September 1978.
