The slow moving winter storm stalls over the center of the nation
The winter storm that took hold of the center of the U.S. on Wednesday will continue to move slowly to the east throughout Thursday. The northern edge of the storm will settle over the Midwest where it will bring snow flurries from Nebraska and Missouri to the Great Lakes with temperatures hovering around the mid-30s for most locations.
 
Moving south, the sow will transition to rain at the southern edge of the center of the U.

Russian hackers targeted Ukrainian company at center of impeachment storm

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russian military hackers tried to steal emails from the Ukrainian energy firm where Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic U.S. presidential contender Joe Biden, had a seat on the board, an American cybersecurity firm said on Monday.

Energy company Burisma Holdings Ltd was at the center of attempts by President Donald Trump last July to pressure Ukrainian authorities into announcing an investigation into the Bidens for purported corruption, an effort that has led to the Republican being impeached by the U.




Strong winds and scorching heat reignite Australia's bushfire danger

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Soaring temperatures and strong winds stoked bushfires in Australia's southeast on Thursday, with Sydney forecast to hit 41 degrees Celsius (105.8 Fahrenheit) following a few days of cooler weather.

A fire in the Snowy Mountains region and one in the Bega Valley on the south coast of New South Wales (NSW) state both flared up, with emergency authorities warning residents to get out if they did not plan to defend their properties.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats accused President Donald Trump at his impeachment trial on Wednesday of a corrupt scheme to pressure Ukraine to help him get re-elected and warned that America's global prestige would suffer if the U.S. Senate acquits him.

The Republican Trump sounded a defiant note, telling reporters in Switzerland the Democrats did not have enough evidence to find him guilty and remove him from office.




Trump says Taliban must curb violence for meaningful Afghanistan talks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump told Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani that there cannot be meaningful negotiations until the Taliban significantly reduces its violence, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Trump reiterated the need for a significant and lasting reduction in violence by the Taliban that would facilitate meaningful negotiations on Afghanistan's future," the White House said. Trump had been in Davos attending the World Economic Forum.




More U.S. troops leave Iraq over potential injuries as Trump downplays brain risk

DAVOS, Switzerland/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he did not consider the brain injuries suffered by 11 U.S. service members in Iran's recent attack on a base in Iraq to be serious, as the American military moved more troops out of the region for potential injuries.

In a statement on Wednesday, U.S. Central Command said that more troops had been flown out of Iraq to Germany for medical evaluations following Iran's Jan.
