House Holds Barr, Ross in Criminal Contempt Over Census Documents

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in criminal contempt for defying congressional subpoenas related to the U.S. census.

The measure, which passed 230-198, was a response to the cabinet members' failure to produce documents requested by House Democrats as part of an investigation into whether the Trump administration attempted to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census that would discriminate against racial minorities.




Unbowed, Trump Intensifies Attacks on Four Democratic Congresswomen

GREENVILLE, N.C./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump stepped up his vilification of four liberal lawmakers as un-American at a raucous rally on Wednesday, underscoring that the attacks will form a key part of his strategy for winning re-election in 2020.

Despite criticism from Democrats that his comments about the four minority congresswomen are racist, Trump went on an extended diatribe about the lawmakers, saying they were welcome to leave the country if they did not like his policies on issues such as immigration and defending Israel.




Isolated Tornadoes Extend across the Midwest and Northern Plains

After a number of isolated tornadoes touched down in the High Plains on Wednesday, the chances of more severe weather in the northern states will remain high on Thursday.
 
The chances of severe weather, including isolated tornadoes, will remain high in The Dakotas and extend to the east as far as northern Michigan by Thursday afternoon.
 
A wet and stormy day will be seen in the East where showers and afternoon storms will extend from the Mid-Atlantic to southern Florida.



Asylum Seekers Anxiously Cross into U.S. as New Policy Kicks In

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (Reuters) - Fear over new U.S. curbs on almost all asylum seekers spread this week among migrants at its southern border, but some on waiting lists in Mexican cities found the gates to the United States stayed open, despite a much higher bar to stay.
