Woman in Van Arrested after Striking White House Barrier

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Tennessee woman driving a white van on Friday intentionally drove into a White House security barrier but did not breach it, and she was immediately apprehended and put under arrest, the U.S. Secret Service said.

No shots were fired and no law enforcement personnel were hurt, the Secret Service said in a statement.

Record Warmth to Continue in the Northeast

Record warmth looks set to continue in the South across the remainder of February with the Northeast alternating between the warm weather of recent days and chillier weather brought South from the Arctic.
The recent warm weather has been accompanied by a rising level of moisture and precipitation in the Deep South stretching north through the Plains into the lower reaches of the Northeast which will be a continuing trend across the weekend.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A former senior official in Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, Rick Gates, pleaded guilty on Friday to conspiracy against the United States and lying to investigators, and he is cooperating with a federal probe into Russia's role in the election.

Cold Weather Locks in Across the West for Another Week

The jet stream of winds which helps decide where the cold and warm regions of the U.S. will be divided looks set to remain in place off the Pacific Coast dipping down to Southern California for at least another week. Many areas of California have already begun to record lows for February with overnight temperatures as far South as Central California dipping into the 20s as Arctic Air continues to descend from Canada into the West and Central Plains with some snow likely for the remainder of the month northerly regions.

Trump Administration Considering Rise in Gas Tax


WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is considering a hike in the gasoline tax, but no decision has been made, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said on Friday.

"We haven't had an increase in the gas tax in a long time. It's one of the things that we're looking at," Mnuchin said in response to a question about a possible 25 cent hike in the tax.
