(Reuters) - Plant-based meat alternatives have seen booming interest from consumers, prompting a growing number of companies to enter the space in hopes of carving out a spot for their products in the competitive supermarket aisle.

Consumers increasingly want to reduce their meat consumption amid growing concerns over health risks, animal welfare and environmental hazards.

Turkey Says Air Strike Hit Syria Convoy, Killed Three

BEIRUT/ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey said a Syrian government air strike on a Turkish military convoy in northwest Syria killed three civilians and wounded 12 on Monday as Syrian troops advanced on rebels in a key town.

The air strikes hit near the convoy that was approaching frontlines in Idlib province, two Turkey-backed rebel sources and a war monitor said.

Ankara, which backs some of the rebel factions in the northwest, has forces stationed in Idlib under deals with Russia, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's most powerful ally.




Chiding Macron, Putin Says 'I Don't Want Yellow Vests in Russia'

FORT BREGANCON, France (Reuters) - Vladimir Putin rebuked his French counterpart on Monday, saying he did not want "yellow vest" protests spring up like in France, after Emmanuel Macron urged the Russian leader to abide by democratic principles following weeks of protests in Moscow.

Macron, who was meeting Putin at his summer residence in southern France five days before hosting summit of G7 rich nations, is keen to show Moscow it is not ostracized despite being kicked out of the G7 after its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.

Three U.S. Men Arrested Over Suspicion of Planning Mass Shootings

The statement of corporate purpose, which shifts from shareholder primacy, was signed by the heads of more than 180 U.S. companies, including the CEOs of Amazon.com Inc <AMZN.O>, American Airlines <AAL.




New York Police Fire Officer Who Placed Eric Garner in Deadly Chokehold

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Police Department on Monday fired the white officer who used a deadly chokehold on Eric Garner while trying to arrest him in 2014, an incident that helped fuel the "Black Lives Matter" movement in response to police use of force.

The case, made famous by Garner's plaintive cries of "I can't breathe" with officer Daniel Pantaleo's arm wrapped around his neck, tore at the NYPD for five long years while the United States dealt with a series of other cases of black officers killing unarmed African-American men.
