FUJAIRAH, United Arab Emirates (Reuters) - The United States sought on Wednesday to bolster its case for isolating Iran over its nuclear and regional activities by displaying limpet mine fragments it said came from a damaged oil tanker and saying the ordnance looked Iranian in origin.

Iran has denied involvement in explosive strikes on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman last week and four tankers off the United Arab Emirates on May 12, both near the Strait of Hormuz, a major conduit for global oil supplies.

Australian Detective Wins Praise for Textbook Tackle of Suspected Stalker

SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian detective interrupted his own news conference to complete a textbook tackle of a man now charged with public nuisance and stalking offences, prompting widespread praise for his sporting skills.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards quickly ended a media briefing outside the Maroochydore Magistrates' Court in the state of Queensland after shouts drew his attention to a 39-year old man racing behind him.

The man was being chased for allegedly making inappropriate comments to a teenage girl, media reported.

A Nightmare That Was Not: New York Rescuers Find Dead Baby Is Actually a Doll

NEW YORK (Reuters) - It was a first responder's worst nightmare: the discovery early on Tuesday of a dead infant.

The find drew police and rescue personnel who spent hours poring over a grassy area near a park in New York's Queens borough before a medical examiner realized the baby was actually a gruesome prop.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered what preliminarily appeared to be an unconscious and unresponsive infant in a grassy area," New York Police Department spokesman Officer Brian Magoolaghan said by phone.

California Governor Apologizes to Native Americans, Cites 'Genocide'

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday apologized to Native Americans for violence and other wrongdoings they suffered during the state's history and called their mistreatment genocide.

The Democratic governor, in an executive order, called for the creation of a Truth and Healing Council to produce a report before the end of 2024 on the historical relationship between the state and Native Americans.
