Millions Across US Watch Total Solar Eclipse

Millions of people across the United States watched a rare total solar eclipse which darkened the skies from the Pacific to the Atlantic for the first time in 99 years.

The eclipse began Monday morning in the Western state of Oregon, causing the temperature to drop significantly as the moon covered the sun.

An estimated 200 million people were within a day's drive of Monday's path of totality, which stretched from Oregon's Pacific Coast, across the U.

US Secret Service Says 1,100 Employees Face Unpaid OvertimeThe U.S. Secret Service will not be able to pay an estimated 1,100 employees for required overtime work after September due to government-imposed pay caps, the agency's chief said on Monday.

In a statement, Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles attributed the funding shortfall to the cost of protecting President Donald Trump and his family, and "an overall increase in operational tempo."

The Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump: Americans 'Weary' of Longest US War President Donald Trump said Monday in a national address that Americans have grown weary without a victory in the longest U.S. war as he laid out a path forward not only in Afghanistan but in South Asia as well.

Trump said the United States must seek an honorable and enduring outcome in Afghanistan that is worthy of the sacrifices made. He said the consequences of a rapid exit from the country would create a vacuum that would be filled by militants.

He also criticized Pakistan, saying the country has acted as a safe haven for "agents of chaos.

Trump to Unveil 'Path Forward' for US in Afghanistan

After years of deriding the U.S. war in Afghanistan as a "complete waste," President Donald Trump on Monday is expected to explain why he now believes it is in the U.S. interest to remain committed to the South Asian country.

In an evening address from a military base outside Washington, Trump is likely to announce the deployment of several thousand additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan, as part of a wider shift in strategy, according to reports.

Putin Names New Ambassador to US

Russian President Vladimir Putin has named deputy foreign minister Anatoly Antonov as the country's new ambassador to the United States.

He will replace Sergei Kislyak, who served for as Moscow's envoy to Washington for more than nine years.

U.S-Russian relations have fallen to their lowest point since the Cold War, with U.S. intelligence agencies concluding that Moscow interfered in the 2016 presidential election, in an effort to help Donald Trump win.

RECALL: Eclipse GlassesAmazon recalls some solar eclipse glasses

If you bought your solar eclipse glasses on Amazon, be careful.

Amazon is recalling some of its solar eclipse glasses, saying they aren't sure if the glasses were made by the right manufacturer.

They have been notifying customers via email. "We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse," Amazon wrote in the email.

The problem is, Amazon couldn't confirm that the glasses came from a recommended manufacturer.
