Victim of Ex-USA Gymnastics Doctor Says Abuse Led to Dad's Suicide

LANSING, Mich. (Reuters) - One of the victims of USA Gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar, who pleaded guilty to molesting dozens of girls, on Tuesday blamed the disgraced doctor for her father's suicide.

Kyle Stephens, pausing to compose herself during Nassar's sentencing hearing in a courtroom in Lansing, Michigan, said the doctor, a family friend, began molesting her when she was 6 years old and her parents did not believe her when she told them.

Dow Hits 26,000 for First Time, No Signs of Slowing

(Reuters) - The Dow Jones Industrial Average raced past the 26,000 mark for the first time on Tuesday as fourth-quarter earnings season got off to a strong start following upbeat results from UnitedHealth and Citigroup.

The blue-chip index, however, eased from its peak as a pullback in oil prices weighed on energy stocks.




4 South Carolina Police Wounded Exchanging Gunfire with Suspect

 

(Reuters) - Four law enforcement officers were shot and wounded in South Carolina on Tuesday as they tried to apprehend a man accused of domestic violence, and one of the officers was in critical condition, the York County sheriff's office said.

Police responded to an emergency call late Monday night about a man assaulting a woman at a home outside the small city of York, sheriff's office spokesman Trent Faris told reporters at a news conference.




U.S. Healthcare Uninsured Rises Most in Near Decade

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans without healthcare insurance rose by 3.2 million people between 2016 and 2017, or 1.3 percentage points to 12.2 percent, according to a Gallup poll released on Tuesday, the biggest jump in the uninsured rate in nearly a decade.
