Power blackouts due to high energy demand are taking place throughout areas of texas.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas initiated power blackouts to parts of Texas today.

"ERCOT is doing everything possible to return to normal operations. However, if conditions do not improve ERCOT will be required to direct the interruption of electric service to portions of the region", from ERCOT

During periods of blackout "it is extremetly urgent that all electricity customers in the region reduce their use of electricity to the lowest level possible."

Conservation measures during such blackout events include:

* putting thermostats at 78 degress or more

* reduce lighting and other appliances to those needed only for safety and/or health reasons.
