Flash flooding in Spain causes more than 60 deaths

Torrential rains in the Valencia region of Spain destroyed bridges, swept away vehicles, and caused devastating mudslides on Tuesday night.

In less than eight hours, the rainfall measured in Valencia was equivalent to a year's worth of storms. As of Wednesday morning, rescuers had recovered 62 bodies. Most of the victims had been driving close to rivers when they were suddenly swept away by rushing floodwaters. The Spanish Army deployed a thousand soldiers to conduct rescue operations and search for more than a dozen missing residents. This traditionally dry and sunny region has been experiencing severe rainy seasons in recent years as a result of climate change.

U.S. Presidential Candidates Intensify Campaign Rallies Before Election Day

With just days before Americans cast their votes to elect their next president, the leading candidates are wrapping up their campaigns. On Tuesday night, United States Vice President Kamala Harris held a massive rally at the Ellipse Park in the District of Columbia to deliver a closing statement speech. Former President Donald Trump was in Pennsylvania, the battleground state where he is already preparing to challenge election results if he loses again. Both candidates are presumably tied according to the voter opinion polls conducted before Trump's disastrous Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Trump campaign has been scrambling to contain the political damage inflicted by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who bombed at MSG with an insulting joke that has driven many Hispanic voters away. Nonetheless, Shadow Senator Zoraida Bux?om Puerto Rico spoke at Trump's rally in Allentown to endorse him.

U.S. Officials Demand Explanation From Israel After Airstrike in Gaza Kills Dozens of Women and Children

After a Tuesday attack by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on a school compound in Beit Lahia, a refugee town in northern Gaza, State Department officials in the United States immediately called on the Israeli government to explain why most of the 93 casualties have been identified as women and children. A report by the Washington Post cited an anonymous White House official who said IDF drone operators spotted a Hamas terrorist on the roof of the building destroyed by the airstrike. All the victims were inside the building when it collapsed. IDF units have intensified combat operations in the region after a series of Hamas sniper attacks and ambush incidents, which have killed four soldiers and severely wounded nine others this week. Among the dead are relatives of humanitarian workers from the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Update on the Campaign Trail

With less than a week to go until Election Day, the focus is squarely on the battleground states. Vice President Kamala Harris started the day Wednesday with a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. During the event, Harris told those gathered that her goal is to "seek common ground" with her detractors. The vice president then traveled to Madison, Wisconsin for a rally in the evening hours, featuring a slew of musical artists and other guests aimed at getting out the vote in the college town.

Former President Donald Trump also started his day in North Carolina, starting with a rally in the town of Rocky Mount. The GOP presidential candidate is looking to capitalize on controversial comments made by President Joe Biden on Tuesday. While speaking to reporters, Biden referred to Trump backers as "garbage."

Onions Cited as Dest of McDonald's E. Coli Outbreak

According to a Wednesday report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fresh slivered onions are the likely culprit in the deadly E. coli outbreak traced to McDonald's Quarter Pounders. The outbreak killed one person and sickened dozens of others across over a dozen states with Colorado seeing the bulk of the issues.

McDonald's supplier Taylor Farms issued a recall of four of its onion products last week due to possible E. coli contamination. The McDonald's stores in affected areas are no longer using these onions. Other fast food restaurants that also use this supplier have stopped using their onions.

The CDC said that they do not think that the recalled onions were delivered to grocery stores or consumers. In addition, the diced onions used in other products at McDonald's have not been connected to the outbreak.
