Merck COVID-19 pill sparks calls for access for lower income countries

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14, 2021 - Evans Food Group Ltd., a Chicago, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 10,359 pounds of pork pellet products that were not presented for import re-inspection into the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The pork pellet products were imported on September 15, 2021 and further processed into pork rind and chicharrones items.

Wintry weather moves east across the Northwest

The latest band of wintry weather will move east across the Pacific Northwest overnight into Monday morning. The Weather Channel forecasts the arrival of cool air from Canada will accelerate the arrival of snow in the Rockies. Some snow flurries will descend into Northern California along the border with Oregon, with snow moving into Nevada and Utah.
Temperatures will reach the upper-60s in Southern California.

U.S. missionaries kidnapped in Haiti as gangs grow more brazenA

U.S. Christian aid organization on Sunday said a group of its missionaries had been kidnapped in Haiti, a further sign the Caribbean nation's gangs are growing increasingly brazen amid political and economic crises.

The group was in Haiti to visit an orphanage when their bus was hijacked on Saturday outside the capital Port-au-Prince, according to accounts by other missionaries, amid a spike in kidnappings following the murder of President Jovenel Moise.

CDC warns flu season could come early and be severe

After the most mild flu season on record in 2020, the CDC is warning the virus could come back early and hit harder this year.

According to the CDC, "the timing of flu is difficult to predict and can vary in different parts of the country and from season to season. Reduced population immunity due to lack of flu virus activity since March 2020 could result in an early and possibly severe flu season."

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs.

Olympics-Protests in Athens as Beijing prepares for Games flame

Greek police detained two human rights activists after they unfurled banners at the Athens Acropolis on Sunday opposing the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics as China's Games organisers prepare to receive the Olympic flame.

The activists staged a brief protest at the Acropolis in the Greek capital early in the morning, holding up a Tibetan flag and a banner reading "Free Hong Kong - Revolution" at a scaffolding surrounding part of the monument.

The activists detained were 18-year-old Tibetan student Tsela Zoksang and 22-year-old Joey Siu, a U.
