Obama fires up Virginia crowd for governor's race he calls a U.S. "turning point"

Former U.S. President Barack Obama urged Virginians to re-elect Terry McAuliffe as governor at a rally on Saturday, emphasizing the race's significance as an indicator of the country's political direction and a reflection of its values.

Obama and McAuliffe, who served as the state's governor from 2014 to 2018, spoke before a cheering crowd at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond with just 10 days to go before the closely watched, tight Nov.

The Pacific Northwest sees more severe weather

There will be an area of severe weather moving into the Pacific Northwest on Sunday. The Winter storm moving into the West Coast will be the largest to strike the region this Fall. As the snow and storms move through the Cascades and Rockies, accumulation will occur at the highest elevations.
The second area of unsettled weather will move through the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes.

Turkey to expel U.S. envoy and nine others, Erdogan says

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that he had told his foreign ministry to expel the ambassadors of the United States and nine other Western countries for demanding the release of philanthropist Osman Kavala.

Seven of the ambassadors represent Turkey's NATO allies and the expulsions, if carried out, would open the deepest rift with the West in Erdogan's 19 years in power.

Kavala, a contributor to numerous civil society groups, has been in prison for four years, charged with financing nationwide protests in 2013 and with involvement in a failed coup in 2016.

Obama stumps for Virginia candidate in race seen as referendum on Biden

Former U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday joins a roster of high-profile Democrats campaigning for Terry McAuliffe, a candidate for Virginia governor in a race seen as a barometer of the country's political direction after Joe Biden, a Democrat, won the presidency over Republican Donald Trump a year ago.

Opinion polls show McAuliffe, who served as Virginia's governor from 2014 to 2018, and Republican Glenn Youngkin nearly tied in the countdown to the Nov.

Patient Case Study Reveals Unusually Long Coronavirus Permanence

The World Health Organization recently issued a formal description for the condition known as "long COVID," in which patients continue experience symptoms of coronavirus disease for months despite having recovered, which means they no longer test positive for SARS-CoV-2. In a few of these cases, however, patients whose immune systems are compromised by genetics or other conditions retain high viral loads for even longer periods; such was the case of a 47-year-old woman in the United States who constantly tested positive for nearly a year.

White House signals Biden may address filibuster reform soon

The White House on Friday offered a strong signal that it is preparing to seek changes soon to a long-standing Senate tradition that has allowed Republicans to block voting rights legislation and other major Democratic initiatives.

Democratic President Joe Biden, who spent 36 years in the Senate, has previously opposed any significant overhaul of a Senate rule known as the filibuster, which requires 60 of the 100 senators to agree on most legislation.

More storms for the Northwest

The Fall weather is ramping up its intensity as October draws to a close. The Weather Channel forecasts a large band of wintry weather will push inland on Saturday and be followed by another storm on Sunday. Saturday's storm will move across Northern California and the Pacific Northwest, with wintry showers reaching the Rockies.

The Northern States will be struck by a blast of Fall air, lowering temperatures to the 50s. The cool air in the north will unsettle the atmosphere in the Central Plains, with severe weather in the forecast from Oklahoma to Nebraska.
